TBU part of the first Gjon Durrahium League of Universities Forum, internationalization is addressed
Tirana Business University was present yesterday at the activity that took place on internationalization and the need for legal changes that were the focus of the first forum of the Gjon Durrahium League of Universities, an association that has in its composition about 12 private universities and colleges in Albania.
Tirana Business University was represented in this forum by the Rector Prof. Dr. Vasilika Kume, the administrator Dr. Altin Sholla, the Deans Prof. Dr. Elvin Meka, and Prof. Assoc. Dr. Indrit Baholli and dozens of lecturers.
In the presence of Prime Minister Edi Rama and three government ministers, the Chairman of the Board of the League of Universities, Prof. dr. Ethem Ruka and the rectors presented the need and problems encountered today in the internationalization of higher education.
The internationalization of higher education brought together the government and universities in the first forum organized by the John of Dyrrachium University League. The Chairman of the Board, Prof. Dr. Ethem Ruka, and the university rectors held a discussion on the challenges and needs for change to facilitate the internationalization process. The event was honored with the participation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and three government ministers: the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu; the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ervin Hoxha, and the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani. Also present were representatives from the academic staff and directors of public and private universities.
“The League of Entrepreneurs in Education” was created and registered as a non-profit organization, with a focus on increasing the quality of higher education and promoting scientific research.
Aiming at the beginnings of higher education in Albania, on November 12, 2024, the association took the name John of Dyrrachium University League, with the Chairman of the Board, the former Minister of Education, Prof. dr. Ethem Ruka.
It is composed of ten non-public universities and colleges in Albania: Luarasi University; European University of Tirana; Polis University; Aldent University; Metropolitan University of Tirana; Tirana Business University; University College of Business; Canadian Institute of Technology; Professional College of Tirana and Qiriazi University College.
The League of Entrepreneurs in Education, was registered as a non-profit organization with the Decision of the Court of the Tirana Judicial District, no. 5663, “On registration as a legal entity”, dated 09.10.2017.
The association aims to contribute to the development of higher education, higher professional education and scientific research both within the country and in its promotion outside Albania. The Association will advocate and lobby for the orientation of policies in the field of higher education and scientific research, for the improvement of the legal and regulatory framework, in order to liberalize that sector through activities such as conferences, round tables, trainings, debate tables with interest groups, publications, etc.
At the meeting of the founding members on 12.11.2024, it was decided to admit new members, with the authorization of the entrepreneurs of these limited liability companies, to the Association, as follows:
- Metropolitan University of Tirana.
- Qiriazi University College.
- “Luarasi” University.
- Aldent University
- Tirana Professional College
- Canadian Institute of Technology
- “Polis” University
At this meeting, with the unanimous will of the members of the Association Assembly, the following decisions were made:
- The new name of the Association is the Gjon Durrahium League of Universities, in honor of Gjon Durrsaku, a well-known personality who emerged from the doors of the Medieval University of Durrës.
- The appointment of Mr. Ethem Ruka, Rector of Luarasi University, a personality in the field of education and science, former Minister of Education and Science, as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Gjon Durrahium League of Universities.
Two HEIs have also submitted a request for membership: Epoka University and the University College of Business.
All documentation has been submitted for filing at the Tirana Judicial District Court for approval of the changes.
